Erla Erlendsdóttir: „Landa uppleitan og ókunnar siglingar“. The Discoveries and the New World in European Texts
This article discusses some important writings about the Spanish discovery of the New World, focusing on letters written at the end of 15th century and in the 16th century in Spain or in America. The texts contain descriptions of navigations and discoveries of these countries, their exotic nature and aborigines. They were later translated into other languages and circulated in Europe. The main object is to trace the route of the translations from South Europe to the northern part of the continent.
