Ármann Jakobsson: All Reality is Produced: On the TV Comedy Series Sigtið
The study concerns Sigtið, a mock-documentary that on the surface deals with complicated social issues (such as death, prejudices, artists and obsessions). It is discussed in particular how the mock-documentary satirises news, news-related material and the representation of ‘reality’ in the media. Sigtið is thus a tv series which revolves around the form of the documentary but also satirises the Iceland of 2006: a consumer society where self-improvement and treatment is at the heart of society and where the creative classes are on the periphery but try to move closer to the centre by subordinating themselves to the values of capitalism.
Keywords: Mock-documentary, satire, Icelandic television.
