Heiti doktorsverkefnis: God within
The purpose of this study is to gain understanding and knowledge regarding people with intellectual disability and their spiritual and religious lives and experiences. The individual self will be studied as for the importance of attachments in the relationship between human beings and God, that is, God within. The focus will be on the depth of their personal faith and what a religious and spiritual connection means to them. This emphasis is the counter to the idea that cognitive development is a predominant factor in a religious and spiritual life
The main theoretical focus will be on Fowler´s theory of faith development, Bowlby´s attachment theory and Jung´s theory concerning the self.
Data will be obtained by using participants observation and focus group in an addition to in-depth interviews.
It is hoped that the results obtained, will bring forth a new perspective regarding religion and spirituality as a part of a well-being for people living with intellectual disabilities.
