Heiti doktorsverkefnis: The Codex Regius of the Prose Edda
My project is a study of the manuscript GKS 2367, the Codex Regius of the Prose Edda, held in the Stofnun Árna Magnússonar in Reykjavik. In particular, I am interested in features of the scribe’s practice which may reveal information about its exemplars. Since one of the project’s aims is also to produce a new digital edition of the manuscript, I am proposing some innovations in this process which incorporate grapho-phonemic descriptions through the application of conventional text-to-speech software. The aim is to construct the edition to allow for flexible text representation options for its users and to use as a source of quantitative orthographic and palaeographic data. This data is then used to build information about the scribe’s normal practice, and recognize deviations from it. Deviations must finally be discussed with an understanding of scribes, scribal schools, textual history, language history, and script history.
